Last weekend, we played our final Three Counties League match at Amersham. It was a close fought affair with the home side finally coming out on top with victory on three rinks to our two and by an overall score of 105-95. Our top rink was comprised of Freda Holt, Malcolm Andrews, Ron Nettleton and Pete West. We picked up four points from this game and will finish in third or fourth place.
On Sunday morning, we travelled to Eastcote in very warm conditions to play Ladygate in the Quarter Final of the Chiltern & Thames League. Our opponents proved to be too strong for us and ran out winners by 71-34.
Next up was our final Bucks League match against Denham which we won by 19-10. This ensured that we finished in second place in Division 2 following a drawn match between our closest rivals – Chesham and Bassetsbury.
Today, we concluded our Watford Vets League fixtures at Abbots Langley. A win would have guaranteed at least second place but it was not to be. The match went down to the final end with us needing to take the end to secure the win. Despite our best efforts, Abbots Langley took the shot and won overall by one shot 35-34.
In between these matches, we also entertained Oakley B.C. from Basingstoke who had been on tour in Norfolk and were on their way back home. With the help of some guest players from our visitors, we were able to compete on six rinks. The Oakley players did find it difficult to get to grips with our rink although they did find success on one. Final score was 121-74 to Chess Vale. Our top rink was Dave Holt, Marion Bringer (guest), Pete Sherrock and Will Gehrig.
