| Chess Vale played host to both the England and Jersey Commonwealth Bowls squads before they flew off to India. As the club has the same surface as has been laid in Delhi it enabled teams to gain vital last minute experience of playing on the Dales Mastergreen carpet. The artificial green, reputed to be one of the flattest in the country, allowed the teams to test different types and makes of bowls and refine playing styles. For both squads the sessions at Chess Vale were to be the last time the squads played together before flying out to Delhi.
