For our opening match, we travelled to local rivals – Broadway to take part in a four-rink triple. It was a close match with the home side winning on two rinks, Chess Vale winning on one and one rink was drawn. Our winning rink comprised Margaret Harding, Brian Wright and Alan Sherrock and the aggregate score was 62-59 in favour of Broadway.
Next up was our first home fixture against Wraysbury in a five-rink triple. The visitors thoroughly enjpyed their time on our Green, coming out on top on all five rinks and an aggregate score of 87-64.
Our first victory was achieved against Hazlemere who were making their first visit for around six years. Chess Vale won on all three rinks by an aggregate score of 63-33. Highest winning rink was Carole Gardner, Brian Wright and Chris Wellsted.
We followed the Hazlemere victory with another home win against Tring. In another five-rink match we came out on top by 91-65. The margin of victory was mainly due to a resounding win by our top rink of Jean Andrews, Kevin Jones and Brian Rogers who won by 23 shots!
