After some postponements due to the excessively hot weather, we got back into action last Sunday with the staging of our Two Woods Competition. Each player competed in four games during the day with the finalists being Pauline Loakes and our new member -Hazel Baker. Pauline had been unbeaten all day and she duly won the final that was played over seven ends.
On Tuesday, the Men’s Vets team entertained Bovingdon. In recent years, our visitors have always had the upper hand but on this occasion, we came out on top by 45-25 to maintain or even improve our position in the table.
The next evening, we played our opening Ray Keen League game at home to Chesham Stiffs. This was a keenly-fought game that finally went the way of the visitors with a final score of Chess Vale 16 Chesham 20.
Final game of the week was a match in the Watford Outdoor Fours competition. Once again, we were drawn at home. We entertained Royal British Legion and led for most of the match with a final result of Chess Vale 23 RBL 11.
